Still Delighting at the Taste of Wild Blackberries

August

“When the blackberries hang
swollen in the woods, in the brambles
nobody owns, I spend

all day among the high
branches, reaching
my ripped arms, thinking

of nothing, cramming
the black honey of summer
into my mouth; all day my body

accepts what it is. In the dark
creeks that run by there is
this thick paw of my life darting among

the black bells, the leaves; there is
this happy tongue.”

–Mary Oliver

What the He…uhm Heck, IS THIS?!?!?!

What the He…er Heck is this?!

I have never seen one before and the first one I noted today looked like a very wet and shiny brain.

There was a weird sense of fear as I had to get nearer, waiting for an alien to pop out at me, glistening fangs and dripping eyes…(sorry, but it’s true)

Ok, fine, I avoided taking the picture of the first wet one, I didn’t want to get too close and then I saw other ones.

Parts of my insides said…BUTTERFLIES!!!! OOOOOOO AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
The rest said are you NUTS!?!?, get some pics so that the nature people everywhere, or in Pennsylvania can rationally erase alien feelings of horror.

A Spring Day Walk, More from The Tree Place

Spring Sunset at the Tree Place

I got to enjoy the most beautiful evening at the Tree Place!!! There have to be more or better words for it. I cannot think of a word that can paint it into your minds like it is here within mine. I got to take a couple hundred images! I used the camera that had the major battery snafu in the winter AND it is still going strong on the ones I have been using in the camera! I’ll put up the image of Spring Sunset here and then point you to Purple Shoe Photography so that you can see the rest of what I took today as I post them later.

Tree Place Sunset

Winter at The Tree Place Series–December 9th

Here is the missing train image from the other day! This is from the Sigma SD10 camera, that has ever so many things that it does, or the photographer can do/must do, that I do not know how to do. Do. (shows teeth in what is supposed to be a grin, nods head curtly and does a sort of curtsy)

Fine, I put the camera in full manual mode, and since I didn’t know it, and didn’t know the directions for working with it nor actually how to skillfully navigate settings…I shot crap. (doing that above parenthetically referenced thing from above again here)

There IS a bonus! The old software to get the raw images off of the card thingie is now new software and for me, is nicer to use, though I will need to play with it and parts of it go against my grain a bit. If I shoot crap, well, it’s crap. HOWEVER!! I could fix the train image so that it is viewable, so I did.

The train, the batteries, and the Sigma in manual. ha!

Notice, that I’m not claiming it as one of the ones I will offer as prints. Copy it at will, and if you make a few bucks from it, more power to ya! (but please do let me know, as it would simply add to the humor of the situation)PSSsttttttt….Pennsylvania Railroad trains were a brown shade 😉

Here are a few other shots that I actually did get today!

And just as I was getting the hang of switching on and off the injured Sigma, pulling out the battery column, stuffing it back in, flipping her back on and snapping…(a nice rythym, that was more of a sway and less like a butt wriggle)

I have agonized all day about this one. I do not feel right. I am telling myself that no one cares. Just to post. But, I care. My intent on this project, I think–to the best of my abilities, is and was to get me out of the house and to The Tree Place. My intent was to attempt to move my personal tastes, perhaps to see and to view beauty in what was not. I thought to go out daily and get at least one image. The first day was amazing. I hadn’t gone for a bit. I was very pleased with the images and had a bit of trouble choosing just one. I was grateful for all of the visions granted to me to experience. I did not wish to diminish any of them. I felt some wonder while taking them. Wonderment that I could feel grounded and joyful just stopping along and taking images on purpose. For any who know me, energy strikes me, and I shoot. No energy, or no camera available, missed shot! I was excited that I went out on purpose looking for pictures and I actually got some.

I stopped, mid shoot, and I prayed and happy tears came, and I felt silly and glad. I held up the camera for a last amazing shot….and the battery light came on! I cursed and then I burst our laughing.

I cannot afford new ones for now. That part is fine. What bothers me is my own rules of commitment. I feel like I am cheating if I post shots from that glorious first day. I tried to convince me that it is all fine and that a shot a day is what I promised. But, I can’t lie to me. I’m glad for that. Though, it’s not good for a daily Winter at The Tree Place series.

In order to ‘fix’ this, I have decided to continue the Winter at The Tree Place series, doing my best. If my car is broken and I need to go out into the yard, I’ll tell you where I got the shot. I certainly can limit myself even by my own expectations. (facial expression that says I am aghast at this repeated ah ha moment)

PS. While choosing the image for today’s post, I was looking at it and noting that no matter how even when right in my face, I couldn’t get all of the object into focus all at the same time. Maybe the lesson might stick now? (ha!giggles)
