Traveling Together
by WS Merwin

If we are separated, I will
try to wait for you
on your side of things

your side of the wall and the water
and of the light moving at its own speed
even on leaves that we have seen
I will wait on one side

while a side is there

  1. “Life seems to be a process of replacing one anxiety with another and substituting one desire for another – which is not to say that we should never strive to overcome any of our anxieties or fulfill any of our desires, but rather to suggest that we should perhaps build into our strivings an awareness of the way our goals promise us a respite and a resolution that they cannot, by definition, deliver.”

  2. Happiest of New Years, Elisa. I have been reading and reading through this computer this morning and traveling far and near in the last week or so. Must travel downstairs to stoke the wood stove imminently as it is so freezing cold. Brrrr. I like that Alain de Botton quote particularly and agree with it 100%. I think. 🙂

    • I went off on travels looking at some of his videos and I’m not so sure that I do agree with him 100%. I wonder that I must be sooo particular about it lol. I agree that it is titicles cold too. I watched a newer film on dvd from the library that had bits of it supposedly in the UP. Of course then, I wondered if that part was in your back yard. (they probably filmed it, well someplace with water and trees and autumn that was NOT anywhere near there–pouts a little) hehe

I hope that your travels were more pleasant this time.
I think that I might be revolting about new year’s wishes lord knows why… gosh it’s cold

      • Sorry, I couldn’t respond earlier. I have been busy story-telling this morning. Gosh, HOURS have passed in it. Did we not have pleasant travels last time? I simply cannot remember whether the Florida trip involved any challenges. It seems they all involve challenges which are forgotten so quickly. Stay warm, dear Elisa, as this New Year wraps its icy shroud around parts of the north…
