“An avidity to punish is always dangerous to liberty. It leads men to stretch, to misinterpret, and to misapply even the best of laws. He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach himself.”
~Thomas Paine, 1795
“At such moments, courage is necessary,” Mr. Obama said. “We need courage to stand up to hate, not just in others, but in ourselves. At such moments, we need the courage to stand up to dogma, not just in others, but in ourselves.”

“Stop abortion at the source. Vasectomies are reversible. Make every young man have one. When he’s deemed financially and emotionally fit to be a father it will be reversed. What’s that? Did the idea of regulating a man’s body make you uncomfortable? Then mind your f**king business.”

Refresh yourself, sister
With the water from the copper bowl with bits of ice in it –
Open your eyes under water, wash them –
Dry yourself with a rough towel and cast
A glance at a book you love.
In this way begin
A lovely and useful day.

Today we had another blizzard. Not that much snow (four inches?) but fierce winds. The world after frosting…

brrrrrrrrrr…I am enjoying me today. Solitude is a warm blanket and not a torture sentence. I am writing and working with Noticing Nature blog. I was even brave and made it public. How does the woodstove heat feel?

The woodstove heat feels wonderful, so warm and soothing. It would be hard to go back to gas or electric. However, after being inside for hours upon hours you start to feel achy so I just went to the mailbox in the old snowmobile suit and felt the wind! I shall look at your shy blog now.
