I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in. ~John Muir, 1913, in L.M. Wolfe, ed., John Muir, John of the Mountains: The Unpublished Journals of John Muir, 1938
Thank God men cannot fly, and lay waste the sky as well as the earth. ~Henry David Thoreau
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. ~Elwyn Brooks White, Essays of E.B. White, 1977
Somehow my comments for this ended up on singing birds. Probably relevant to both, I will have to look and see . . .
Anyway, the quotes are in such perfect resonance with my own heart.

I have many books of Thoreau and Muir.I think I shall look for more E.B. White for myself. It was interesting to find him quoted. You know how simple it is to make assumptions about a person based upon what meets the eye first, such as his being a children’s author. It can be most amazing to be shown more about a person, to enlarge what one thinks they are and can be, based upon that idea of ‘are’. I hope you had a wonderful day full of many moments.
